Credits and discounts
Credits
Referrals. Where you refer somebody who becomes a client and contracts billable work, we credit you one hour at the rate applicable to your own work.
Testimonials. We credit clients who provide a testimonial for use on our website.
Acting as a reference. Prospective clients sometimes ask to speak to current or former clients. If you are willing to act as a reference and are used as one, you receive a credit.
Instructional use. We sometimes develop instructional material and it helps to use real edited text. Where you agree to your material being used, we credit you. Your materials will never be used for any such purpose without your specific written consent.
Credits are transferable, can be accumulated, and do not expire. They are recorded as dollar values, not hours, and retain their face value if rates change.
If you believe you are owed a credit and have not received it, tell us and we will put it right.
Discounts
Military: 5% for those who have served or currently serve in the US, Canadian, Commonwealth, NATO, Ukrainian, or allied forces.
Prepaid blocks: $1,000 start. 5% on all billings — 6% at $2,500 or more. Priority in the work queue, and work continues without waiting on an invoice — full terms.
Discounts stack, and the military discount is applied first. Credits are applied after both.
Rush charges
Rush work requires us to rearrange existing schedules and sometimes to work evenings and weekends. It affects both our workflow and our people's lives, and it is charged accordingly.
What counts as rush
- Any project submitted less than three full business days before its due date
- Any project where the materials needed do not arrive until less than three full business days before the due date
- Any project estimated to need more than 1.5 hours of work per standard working day before the deadline
- Any project requiring the existing work queue to be rescheduled
- Any project requiring work outside standard hours
